Growing older gracefully (or is that grumpily?!)

I swear since ever I’ve entered my 30s, I have turned into a right Victor Meldrew. I have an opinion on everything. People who know me will tell you I was born grumpy.. They’re fibbing (well kind of…!).

Anyway, you might have noticed that I haven’t updated my blog for a long time (2 years to be exact) as I have been rather busy and have entered a new stage in my life… Being 30!  Yes- you read that right; this youthful looking lady is now 30.

My mammy's homemade coffee cake
which is my favourite!

One of the cures for the grumps is coffee, ‘wonderful cannot live without’ kind of coffee- sadly there is a lack of a decent brewed hipster coffee shops where I live so I often have to make a trip to Birmingham for some caffeine that will elevate my day and make everything a-ok.

Some places I like to hang out-

If in a rush and would like to be inside the New Street Station, look no further than Joe’s Kitchen- free Wi-Fi, charging sockets, tasty offerings and COFFEE!
This light and airy coffee place is a great meeting point for people who want to meet, a resting point after a day on your feet or a on the go before catching your trains.
If you do have time to mooch around the city, head over to Yorks’ bakery cafe that does amazing coffee along with decent brunch food. There are Wi-Fi and sockets points if you want to work away from home with yummy smelling food.
If you fancy something lighter, head over to Yorks bakery’s sisters- Yorks Espresso bar. Coffee is freshly made the way you want it to be and with the quirky surroundings your waiting time is pleasant and fun to look around.
Both are situated near each other on Temple Row and a new one has opened recently near the New Street Station on the corner of Pinfold Street. Get the mocha!
If these are busy which they tend to be, head over to Urban Coffee Co in Church Street where friendly staff will greet you like long lost family. There are plenty of coffees on offer especially with their nightly events with a beer or two thrown in.

I wonder at times how it is I don’t get so hyper drinking far too much coffee! At the start of this year I seemed to be booking a lot of stage shows, so far I’ve seen Les Miserables in the West End, and Rinkoo, a deaf comedian. I was supposed to attend ‘Light’ but some idiot spilt not one but TWO glasses of red wine, which meant I had to rush home before it stained. Crisis averted yay!
I have booked couple of tickets for some shows coming up, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert for the THIRD time, and Mamma Mia. There is a show I’m rather excited about watching which is ‘The Government Inspector’ which has a great cast (I’m biased as one of my friends and also my neighbour is in it) and will be in Birmingham Rep this month.

The start of the year has been quite strange for me as I’m usually on the go- volunteering for something and this year I have cut back as I need more time for myself and my Masters dissertation but so far this seem to be giving me itchy feet! I have to mention that since my trip to Iceland (the country, not the shop) I have felt the urge to go somewhere new but as always- life get in the way.  I dearly miss Iceland not just because it was wonderful but it was so nice to be with the ladies for a few days but that’s a post for another day!

Background of the Blue Lagoon,
it was windy and very cold!

I’m really hoping to get back into this blogging- great for the soul and all that.

Fact: I’m a wee bit obsessed with baked beans on toast at the moment.
